In
the beginning we gave our dogs conventional food. They got dry
pellets and canned food, added by cottage cheese or yoghurt and
a bit of a good oil. We bought high quality food made in germany
with various tastes.
But our dogs not always were confident with our menues.
Sometimes they ate only half the meal, from time to time nothing
at all and sometimes they had a problem with indigestion. (You
can smell that, even without a sensible dog's nose).
Especially with the dry pellets we had several difficulties. Of
some bags not even a single bit was taken so that we had to
throw it away and buy new.
So we looked for an another way of feeding our dogs. The (not
really new) method of feeding we found, nowadays is called b.a.r.f., but
already in old books about breeding you can find instructions to feed your
dogs with raw meat. Sceptical at first, we found it a logical and
easy way of feeding.
So what do carnivores eat? Raw meat. Yes, but that's not all.
Caught animals are eaten completely with skin and bones. And if
they can get, dogs even eat fruit.
If you want feed b.a.r.f., you have to copy the natural food of
carnivores as good as possible. On the menue plan we have raw
meat (no pig) and raw bones, liver, heart, fish, raw vegetables
and fruit. We add cottage cheese and oil as before.
Feeding b.a.r.f. isn't more expencive than canned food. The meals are
smaller because there are no cereals in it (dogs don't need cereals)
and you add chopped vegetables and fruit to the meat. The dogs
are healthier and the hair quality is better than ever.
